Basketball Recap: Dunnellon Comes Up Short

On Tuesday, the Dunnellon Tigers were within striking distance but couldn't close the gap as they fell 55-50 to the Trenton Tigers. Dunnellon has now taken an 'L' in back-to-back games.

When it comes to explaining why Dunnellon lost, don't look at Tre'Quori Rollerson. Despite the final result, he dropped a double-double on 13 points and 17 boards. Those 17 rebounds gave Rollerson a new career-high. The team also got some help courtesy of Eli Nelson, who went 6 of 9 en route to 13 points and five boards.

Even though they lost, Dunnellon smashed the offensive glass and finished the game with 16 offensive boards. They easily outclassed their opponents in that department as Trenton only pulled down nine offensive rebounds.

Multiple players turned in solid performances to lead Trenton to victory, but perhaps none more so than Nathan Ridgell, who went 6 for 11 on his way to 12 points. Another player making a difference was Tyler Bullis, who went 5 of 11 en route to 15 points in addition to five rebounds and three steals.

Dunnellon's loss dropped their record down to 7-10. As for Trenton, they are on a roll lately: they've won six of their last seven matches, which provided a massive bump to their 12-7 record this season.

Both teams will have to hit the road in their upcoming games. Dunnellon won't have much time to rest: their next game is against Vanguard at 7:30 p.m. on Wednesday. Dunnellon is strutting in with some offensive muscle as they've averaged 56.6 points per game this season. As for Trenton, they are taking a road trip to take on Fort White at 8:00 p.m. on Thursday. Trenton also hasn't been messing around on offense: they've averaged 58.2 points per game.
