Basketball Game Preview: Thornton Trojans vs. Wheat Ridge Farmers

The Thornton Trojans will take on the Wheat Ridge Farmers on Tuesday. One thing working in Thornton's favor is that they have posted at least 55 points in their last eight contests.

Last Thursday, Thornton was just a bucket shy of victory and fell 57-56 to Gateway. The loss was a bit of a surprise, as the Trojans came into the matchup with a sizable advantage in MaxPreps' Colorado basketball rankings (they are ranked 119th, while the Olympians are ranked 239th).

Meanwhile, Wheat Ridge played a tough game on Wednesday in which they were outscored in every quarter. They were beaten by Green Mountain 79-50. The Farmers have struggled against the Rams recently, as the game was their seventh consecutive lost matchup.

Loss or not, Wheat Ridge got some senior leadership from Isaiah Rainalter and Da'Mon Bobbs. Rainalter posted 18 points, while Bobbs put up ten points. Jyles Ballenger was another key player, putting up six points.

Thornton's defeat ended an eight-game streak of wins at home and dropped them to 17-6. As for Wheat Ridge, their loss dropped their record down to 11-11.

Thornton suffered a grim 55-29 defeat to Wheat Ridge when the teams last played back in December of 2016. Thankfully for Thornton, Travis Cowan (who went 6-for-11 on his way to 18 points and five steals) won't be suiting up this time. Will that be enough to change the final result?
