League recap: Burlington-Edison stuns Anacortes in upset

2A/3A Northwest recap October 8, 2013

The biggest upset of the week belonged to Burlington-Edison, who took down 83rd ranked Anacortes, 35-14.

The Tigers moved up to 67 from 94 in the state rankings this week, the biggest jump in 2A/3A Northwest. Burlington-Edison climbed the ranks as a result of topping the Seahawks 35-14.

Anacortes' offense was unstoppable this week, as it produced the league's top passer, rusher and receiver. Jared Douglas threw for 67 and 1 touchdown and Andrew Medalia had 37 yards receiving. On the ground Nick Monroe chipped in 93 yards. Monroe helped Anacortes' passing attack out by catching 2 balls for 15 yards.

Liam Darrow was a key player and the best on defense this week as Dustin South's team fell to the Tigers. He recorded 1 fumble.

Medalia was the best receiver in the league this week as the Seahawks fell to Burlington-Edison. Medalia racked up 3 receptions for 37 yards. Monroe helped Anacortes' passing attack out by catching 2 balls for 15 yards.

Anacortes' offense cannot be tamed this season and the Seahawks feature the season leaders in passing, rushing and receiving yards. Douglas has thrown for 645 yards and 7 touchdowns this season, while Medalia has 16 catches for 283 yards. Douglas also leads the league in rushing with 347 yards.

An important game coming up in 2A/3A Northwest this week will be when Ferndale takes on Sedro-Woolley. The Golden Eagles are currently in second, while the Cubs are in fourth.

Lynden extended the longest winning streak in the league this week by beating Sehome, 45-7. The victory was the fifth in a row for the team.
