Baseball Game Preview: Lyons Lions vs. Estes Park Bobcats

The Lyons Lions will head out on the road to take on the Estes Park Bobcats at 3:30 p.m. on Tuesday. Given that the two teams suffered a loss in their last games, they both have a little extra motivation heading into this contest.

Lyons managed to slip by Flatirons Academy the last time these teams faced off, but didn't have those same answers this time around. The Lions came up short against the Bison on Thursday, falling 9-0. The game marked the first time this year in which the Lions were not able to get on the board.

Lyons saw two different players step up and record at least one hit. One of them was Zack LaCrosse, who went 1-for-3 with one double. Kaion Kishiyama also deserves some recognition as he snagged his first stolen bases of the season.

Meanwhile, Estes Park fought the good fight in their extra-innings match against Limon on Saturday but wound up with a less-than-desirable result. They fell just short of the Badgers by a score of 10-9. The Bobcats haven't had much luck with the Badgers recently, as the team has come up short the last three times they've met.

Gabe Oberg and Isaac Hill did some serious damage despite the final result: Oberg scored a run and stole two bases while getting on base in three of his four plate appearances, while Hill scored a run and stole three bases while going 3-for-3. The team also got some help courtesy of Hayden Powell, who scored two runs and stole a base while going 2-for-4.

This is the second loss in a row for Lyons and nudges their season record down to 3-6. As for Estes Park, they now have a losing record of 3-4.

The batters for both teams will have to hit smart on Tuesday as both have some strikeout artists on the roster. Lyons has been retiring batters left and right this season, having averaged 9.3 strikeouts per game. However, it's not like Estes Park struggles in that department as they've been averaging 7 strikeouts. Considering how easily both teams rack up Ks, the hitters on both teams better bring their A-game into this one.

Lyons couldn't quite get it done against Estes Park in their previous matchup back in May of 2024 as they fell 6-2. Can the Lions avenge their loss or is history doomed to repeat itself? We'll find out soon enough.
