Softball Game Preview: Grafton Gators vs. Ashland Clockers

The Grafton Gators are taking a road trip to challenge the Ashland Clockers at 4:00 p.m. on Thursday. Grafton has given up an average of 13.6 runs per game this season, but Thursday's game will give them a chance to turn things around.

Grafton managed to slip by Millbury the last time these teams faced off, but didn't have those same answers this time around. The Gators came up short against the Woolies on Wednesday, falling 12-0. Give some credit to the fans of both teams: the last four times they've met, the home team has come away the winner.

Meanwhile, Ashland hadn't done well against Westwood recently (they were 0-9 in their previous nine matchups), but they didn't let the past get in their way on Wednesday. The Clockers won by a run and slipped past the Wolverines 10-9.

The team relied heavily on Lorelai Collette, who fired off two home runs, three runs, and one double while going 4-for-4. Those two home runs gave her a new career-high. Ava Vendetti was another key player, going 1-for-4 with two RBI and one run.

Ashland was getting hits left and right and finished the game having posted a batting average of .406. They easily outclassed their opponents in that department as Westwood only posted a batting average of .267.

Ashland is on a roll lately: they've won three of their last four matchups. That's provided a nice bump to their 12-5 record this season. As for Grafton, their defeat was their eighth straight on the road, which dropped their record down to 1-14.
