Softball Recap: Ledyard's Victory on Wednesday Extends Winning Streak to Six

Ledyard had already won five in a row (a stretch where they outscored their opponents by an average of 15.4 runs) and they went ahead and made it six on Wednesday. They came out on top against the Killingly Redmen by a score of 10-5. This was payback for the Colonels, who suffered a 4-1 defeat the last time these two teams met.

Alexia Lemmon spent all seven innings on the mound, and it's clear why: she surrendered three earned (and two unearned) runs on six hits. She has been nothing but reliable: she hasn't given up more than two walks in five consecutive appearances.

On the hitting side, the team relied heavily on Julia Bonser, who went a perfect 4-for-4 with three doubles, three RBI, and one stolen base. The team also got some help courtesy of Alana Ninteau, who went 2-for-4 with two runs, one stolen base, and two RBI.

Ledyard's win bumped their record up to 6-1. As for Killingly, their loss dropped their record down to 2-2.

Both squads will have to hit the road in their upcoming games. Ledyard will challenge Norwich Free Academy at 4:15 p.m. on Friday. The two teams have allowed few runs on average (the Colonels 3, the Wildcats 3.6) so any runs scored will be well earned. As for Killingly, they will head out on the road to square off against East Lyme at 4:15 p.m. on Thursday. The Redmen are facing the Vikings at the right time seeing as the Vikings are stuck on a three-game losing streak.
