Basketball Game Preview: Cummings Cavaliers vs. Chatham Central Bears

The Cummings Cavaliers will head out to square off against the Chatham Central Bears at 7:30 p.m. on Friday.

Cummings' tournament run continued when they took on Glenn on Saturday. Cummings fell 50-43 to Glenn. The Cavaliers have now taken an 'L' in back-to-back games.

Meanwhile, Chatham Central entered their tilt with Graham last Friday with four consecutive wins but they'll enter their next game with five. They came out on top against the Red Devils by a score of 77-64. Given the Bears' advantage in MaxPreps' North Carolina basketball rankings (they are ranked 159th, while the Red Devils are ranked 460th), the result wasn't entirely unexpected.

Cummings better focus on containing Reid Albright and Brennen Oldham as the pair were huge in Chatham Central's win. Albright went 8 of 15 on his way to 23 points along with eight boards and seven assists, while Oldham dropped a double-double on 19 points and 12 boards. Albright's evening made it six games in a row in which he has scored at least ten points. The team also got some help courtesy of Jeremiah Young, who went 5 of 10 on his way to 13 points.

Chatham Central smashed the offensive glass and finished the game with 17 offensive boards. That strong performance was nothing new for the team: they've now pulled down at least nine offensive rebounds in 11 consecutive contests dating back to last season.

Chatham Central pushed their record up to 8-1 with the win, which was their third straight on the road. Those victories came thanks to their offensive performance across that stretch, as they averaged 64.7 points per game. As for Cummings, their defeat dropped their record down to 4-6.

Cummings came up short against Chatham Central when the teams last played back in February, falling 71-58. Can Cummings avenge their loss or is history doomed to repeat itself? We'll find out soon enough.
