Baseball Recap: Elkhart Comes Up Short

Elkhart came into their game on Saturday off a hard-fought close win, but unfortunately suffered a serious change of fortune. They lost 11-4 to the Groesbeck Goats. Unfortunately, that's the second time they've come up short against the Goats this season, as they also lost their prior matchup 14-1 on March 5th.

Coyt Cooper and Cole Horton stepped up to the plate in a big way. Cooper scored a run and stole a base while getting on base in four of his five plate appearances, while Horton went 1-for-4 with three RBI and one double. Those three RBI gave Horton a new career-high. The team also got some help courtesy of Johnny Franklin, who scored two runs while getting on base in four of his five plate appearances.

Elkhart dropped their record down to 8-11 with the defeat, which was their third straight at home. As for Groesbeck, their win bumped their record up to 10-4-1.

Both teams are looking forward to the support of their home crowds in their upcoming games. Elkhart will square off against Teague at 7:00 p.m. on Tuesday. As for Groesbeck, they will be playing at home against Rogers at 6:00 p.m. on Tuesday.
