The Smith County Owls will face off against the Jackson County Blue Devils at 4:00 p.m. on Monday. Smith County will come into the contest with an undefeated record on the line.
On Saturday, Smith County was able to grind out a solid victory over Pope John Paul II, taking the game 10-7.
Wyatt Claywell made a big impact while hitting and pitching. He looked comfortable on the mound, tossing three innings while giving up just two earned runs off two hits. What's more, he posted two strikeouts, the most he's had since back in May of 2024. He was also stellar in the batter's box, going 2-for-4 with three RBI, two runs, and one triple. That triple was his first of the season.

In other batting news, the team relied heavily on Bennett Gammon, who went 4-for-5 with four RBI, two doubles, and one run. Those four hits gave him a new career-high. The team also got some help courtesy of Walker Hackett, who scored two runs while going 3-for-4.
Smith County kept the outfield on their toes and finished the game with 11 hits. That strong performance was nothing new for the team: they've now got at least eight hits in seven consecutive matchups.
Meanwhile, Jackson County had to endure a four-game losing streak, but that streak is no more. They walked away with a 6-1 win over Clarkrange on Friday.
Smith County pushed their record up to 8-0 with the victory, which was their fourth straight on the road. The wins came thanks in part to their hitting performance across that stretch, as they averaged 9.5 runs over those games. As for Jackson County, their victory bumped their record up to 2-5.
Everything went Smith County's way against Jackson County in their previous matchup back in April of 2024, as Smith County made off with a 12-0 win. Will Smith County repeat their success, or does Jackson County has a new game plan this time around? We'll find out soon enough.
