Football Recap: Artesia Comes Up Short

After soaring to 56 points the game before, Artesia was a bit more limited in their contest on Thursday. They had to suffer through a 49-7 loss at the hands of the Maranatha Minutemen. The Pioneers were in a tough position after the first half, with the score already sitting at 42-7.

Joey Peck threw for 120 yards while completing 85.7% of his passes. Andrew Quarles was his top target, picking up 87 receiving yards. On the ground, Jorge Velazquez rushed for 34 yards and one TD.

Cooper Berry was nothing short of spectacular for Maranatha: he threw for 447 yards and six touchdowns while completing 88% of his passes. George Pamilton helped Berry out on the ground, picking up 125 receiving yards and a pair of scores.

Artesia's defeat dropped their record down to 1-1. As for Maranatha, they have started the season off flawlessly and has a 2-0 record to show for it.

Both teams are looking forward to the support of their home crowds in their upcoming games. Artesia will host Firebaugh at 7:00 p.m. on September 5. As for Maranatha, they will be playing at home against Rio Hondo Prep at 7:00 p.m. on Thursday.
