Baseball Recap: Eastern Victorious

Eastern's game on Friday was a loss, but they didn't let that memory haunt them on Saturday. They narrowly escaped with a victory as the team sidled past the Shelby County Rockets 7-6. That's more bragging rights for the Eagles, who also won the pair's last head-to-head.

Ryan Boswell made a big impact no matter where he played. He struck out seven batters over 4.1 innings while giving up three earned runs off five hits (and only one walk). That's the most strikeouts he has posted since April 1st. He was also big at the plate, getting on base in three of his four plate appearances with one run, one double, and one RBI.

In other batting news, Eastern let Ethan Carroll and Aidan Calhoun run wild. Carroll went 3-for-4 with two runs, while Calhoun went 1-for-4 with one stolen base, two RBI, and one run. Another player making a difference was Tyler Cansler, who got on base in three of his four plate appearances with one run and one RBI.

Eastern's win bumped their record up to 18-8. As for Shelby County, they have traveled a rocky road recently, having lost three of their last four games. That's put a noticeable dent in their 9-13 record this season.

Eastern will take on DuPont Manual at 6:00 p.m. on Monday. The Crimsons have struggled to contain batters this season (they've allowed 8.5 runs per game on average), something the Eagles will no doubt try to take advantage of. As for Shelby County, they will challenge Collins at 5:30 p.m. on Tuesday. The Titans will roll in looking for their fourth straight victory, something the Rockets surely won't give up without a fight.
