Basketball Recap: Marquette Catholic Beats Staunton for Their Third Straight Win

Marquette Catholic lost to Staunton back in February of 2023, but they didn't allow them the same satisfaction on Tuesday. The Marquette Catholic Explorers walked away with a 40-33 win over the Staunton Bulldogs. The victory was all the more spectacular given the Explorers' disadvantage in MaxPreps' Illinois basketball rankings (they are ranked 252nd, while the Bulldogs are ranked 86th).

The win (which was Marquette Catholic's third in a row) raised their record to 11-9. As for Staunton, their defeat dropped their record down to 18-4.

Marquette Catholic will take on Carrollton in a tournament on Thursday. Carrollton will roll in looking for their ninth straight victory, something Marquette Catholic surely won't give up without a fight. As for Staunton, they will be taking part in a tournament against Jersey at 7:30 p.m. on Friday. Jersey has been getting the ball to fall more lately as they've increased their point totals each of their last three games.
