Basketball Recap: Sayre Takes a Loss

Sayre was not able to break out of their rough patch on Thursday as the team picked up their third straight loss. They were four points away from ending the streak, but they lost a 61-57 heartbreaker at the hands of the Maritime Academy Charter Seadogs. The Sabres were given a dose of their own medicine in this game as the Seadogs apparently hadn't forgotten their defeat the last time these teams played back in February of 2022.

Maritime Academy Charter's win was the result of several impressive offensive performances. One of the most notable came from Jadin Aviles, who went 5 of 12 on his way to 17 points along with six boards and five steals. Aviles has been hot, having posted two or more steals the last seven times he's played. Jermaine Boone-Williams was another key player, going 8 for 16 en route to 19 points in addition to seven rebounds and three steals.

Sayre's loss dropped their record down to 2-15. As for Maritime Academy Charter, their win bumped their record up to 9-12.

Sayre does not have any more games scheduled as of now. As for Maritime Academy Charter, they will challenge KIPP DuBois Collegiate Academy at 3:15 p.m. on Wednesday. KIPP DuBois Collegiate Academy has been getting the ball to fall more lately as they've increased their point totals each of their last three games.
