The Denver Academy Mustangs are taking a road trip to square off against the Arrupe Jesuit Generals at 10:00 a.m. on Saturday. Denver Academy's hitters haven't had much luck over their past four games, but Saturday's contest will give them a chance to turn things around.
Denver Academy came up short against Lyons on Thursday, falling 17-2.
Denver Academy saw two different players step up and record at least one hit. One of them was Chris Janssen, who got on base in all three of his plate appearances with one run.
Meanwhile, Arrupe Jesuit can bid farewell to their four-game losing streak thanks to their game on Thursday. They were the clear victors by a 16-6 margin over Denver West.
Gerardo Saucedo was a major factor while hitting and pitching. On the mound, he pitched one inning while giving up no earned runs off one hit. Saucedo was even better at the plate, getting on base in all four of his plate appearances with two stolen bases and two runs. That's the most runs he has posted since back in May of 2024.
In other batting news, Arrupe Jesuit got a big performance out of Osmar Garcia, who went 2-for-3 with two stolen bases, two runs, and two RBI. Another player making a difference was Samir Casillas-Cervantes, who got on base in three of his four plate appearances with three stolen bases and two runs.
Arrupe Jesuit always had someone on base and finished the game having posted an OBP of .686. They easily outclassed their opponents in that department as Denver West only posted an OBP of .480.
Denver Academy's defeat dropped their record down to 3-9. As for Arrupe Jesuit, they picked up their first home victory, bumping their record up to 3-14.
Arrupe Jesuit's hitters will have their work cut out for them on Saturday. Denver Academy has been retiring batters left and right this season, having averaged 8.2 strikeouts per game. It's a different story for Arrupe Jesuit, though, as they've been averaging only 3.8 strikeouts. Will Denver Academy keep running through batters, or will the Generals buck the trend?
Denver Academy took their win against Arrupe Jesuit in their previous meeting back in May of 2024 by a conclusive 15-5 score. The rematch might be a little tougher for the Mustangs since the squad won't have the home-field advantage this time around. We'll see if the change in venue makes a difference.
