Baseball Game Preview: Hickory Hawks vs. Grassfield Grizzlies

The Hickory Hawks will face off against the Grassfield Grizzlies at 5:45 p.m. on Tuesday. The two teams are strolling into their games after big wins in their previous games.

Hickory's pitching crew heads into the contest hoping to repeat the dominance they displayed on Friday. They blew past Nansemond-Suffolk Academy 6-0. The win continues a trend for the Hawks in their matchups with the Saints: they've now won four in a row.

Matthew Kemick was excellent, scoring a run while going 3-for-3. Another player making a difference was Ryan Kennedy, who scored a run while going 2-for-4.

Meanwhile, Grassfield waltzed into their match on Thursday with three straight wins... but they left with four. They were the clear victors by a 9-1 margin over the Braves. The game marked the Grizzlies' most dominant victory of the season so far.

Grassfield pushed their record up to 4-3 with the win, which was their third straight on the road. Those road victories came thanks in part to their hitting performance across that stretch, as they averaged 7.3 runs over those games. As for Hickory, their win bumped their record up to 3-1.

Hickory skirted past Grassfield 6-4 in their previous meeting back in May of 2024. Do the Hawks have another victory up their sleeve, or will the Grizzlies turn the tables on them? We'll have the answer soon enough.
