Baseball Recap: Staley Picks Up Fourth Straight Win on the Road

On Monday Staley's undefeated season almost came to an end. They came within a single run of losing the streak, but they secured a 2-1 W against the Blue Springs South Jaguars. That's two games straight that the Falcons have won by just one run.

Grant Madrid was a major factor no matter where he played. He tossed one inning while giving up no earned runs or hits. He has been nothing but reliable on the mound: he hasn't given up more than two hits any time he's pitched this season. He was also solid in the batter's box, scoring two runs and stealing a base while getting on base in three of his four plate appearances. That stolen base was his first of the season.

In other pitching news, Jake Thomas tossed a big game, not allowing a single earned run and allowing only two hits while striking out nine over 4.1 innings pitched.

Madrid wasn't the only one making solid contact as five players wound up with at least one hit. One of them was Krue Patrick, who got on base in three of his four plate appearances with one RBI. Carter Schaunaman also deserves some recognition as he brought in his first RBI of the season.

Staley pushed their record up to 9-0 with the win, which was their fourth straight on the road. They've had to fight for that success though, as they only beat their opponents by an average of 3.5 runs across that stretch. As for Blue Springs South, their loss was their first of the season and makes their record 5-1.

Staley and Blue Springs South should be looking forward to their upcoming games as both have a sizable advantage in the MaxPreps Missouri Rankings. The Falcons will challenge Park Hill at 5:00 p.m. on Wednesday with a big rank advantage (5 vs. 239). Meanwhile, Blue Springs South (ranked sixth) will meet Oak Park (ranked 168th) at 4:00 p.m. on Wednesday.
