Basketball Game Preview: Maple Mountain Golden Eagles vs. Wasatch Wasps

The Maple Mountain Golden Eagles will challenge the Wasatch Wasps at 5:15 p.m. on Tuesday. Maple Mountain is strutting in with some offensive muscle as they've averaged 53.3 points per game this season.

Maple Mountain took a loss when they played away from home on Tuesday, but their home fans gave them all the motivation they needed on Friday. They secured a 50-46 W over Salem Hills. The win was all the more spectacular given the Golden Eagles' disadvantage in MaxPreps' Utah basketball rankings (they are ranked 48th, while the Skyhawks are ranked seventh).

Maple Mountain found their leader in sophomore Leah Bailey, who went 5 of 11 on her way to 22 points. The team also got some help courtesy of Autumn Jones, who almost dropped a double-double on nine points and nine rebounds.

Meanwhile, Wasatch entered their tilt with Cedar Valley on Friday with three consecutive wins but they'll enter their next game with four. They walked away with a 51-38 victory over the Aviators.

Wasatch pushed their record up to 17-3 with the win, which was their fifth straight on the road. Those victories came thanks in part to their offensive performance across that stretch, as they averaged 53.8 points over those games. As for Maple Mountain, their victory bumped their record up to 9-12.

Maple Mountain came up short against Wasatch when the teams last played last Tuesday, falling 71-60. A big factor in that loss was the dominant performance of Wasatch's Mahala Speredon, who dropped a double-double on 27 points and 15 boards. Now that Maple Mountain knows the damage she can cause, will they be able to stop her this time? There's only one way to find out.
