Basketball Recap: Mission Hills Takes a Loss

Mission Hills has been a dominant force so far, but they're in the middle of a mini-slump at the moment. They took a 63-54 hit to the loss column at the hands of the San Marcos Knights on Friday. While losing is never fun, the Grizzlies can't take it too hard given the team's big disadvantage in MaxPreps' California basketball rankings (they are ranked 191st, while the Knights are ranked 31st).

San Marcos got their victory on the backs of several key players, but it was Richie Ramirez out in front who went 5 for 10 on his way to 18 points along with seven assists and seven rebounds. Ramirez's evening made it six games in a row in which he has scored at least ten points. The team also got some help courtesy of Jalen Williams, who went 5 of 11 en route to 15 points and six boards.

Mission Hills' defeat dropped their record down to 14-8. As for San Marcos, the win (which was their fourth in a row) raised their record to 19-3.

Mission Hills has already played their next contest (against Westview), but no score has been uploaded at the time of writing. San Marcos is taking a road trip to take on Poway at 7:00 p.m. on Tuesday. San Marcos knows how to get points on the board -- the team has finished with 55 points or more in their past six matchups -- so hopefully Poway likes a good challenge.
