Softball Recap: Seneca Starts Season with Loss at Home

Seneca unfortunately couldn't capitalize on their home-field advantage in their season opener. They fell just short of the Eastern Vikings by a score of 6-5 on Monday. The defeat continues a trend for the Golden Eagles in their meetings with the Vikings: they've now lost three in a row.

Chloe Carter spent all eight innings on the mound, and it's clear why: she surrendered five earned (and one unearned) runs on 13 hits and racked up nine Ks. Those nine strikeouts gave her a new career-high.

At the plate, Emily Buddendorf made the most of her time at bat despite the final result and scored two runs while going 2-for-5. That's the most hits she has posted since back in May of 2024. Alyssa Maybury was another key player, scoring a run while going 2-for-4.

Seneca and Eastern will both get their first taste of in-conference action in their upcoming games. Seneca will take on rival Moorestown at 3:45 p.m. on Wednesday. Meanwhile, Eastern is set to face off against their familiar foe Rancocas Valley at 3:45 p.m. on Wednesday.
