Recap: Murphy Panthers vs. Spanish Fort Toros
After soaring to 34 points the game before, The Murphy Panthers were a bit more limited in their match on Friday. They took a serious blow against Spanish Fort, falling 42-9. Murphy was in a tough position after the first half, with the score already sitting at 42-0.
When it comes to explaining why Murphy lost, one person who can't be blamed is Jaylon Edney. Despite the final result, he gained 83 total yards and a touchdown.
Spanish Fort got their victory on the backs of several key players, but it was Nehemiah Hixon out in front who rushed for 86 yards and two touchdowns on only five carries. Another player making a difference was Sawyer Wilson, who rushed for 65 yards and a touchdown on only seven carries.
Murphy's loss was their fifth straight at home, which dropped their overall record down to 2-7. Those losses could be blamed on the team's offensive performance across that stretch, as they only averaged 7.4 points per game. As for Spanish Fort, the victory was the sixth in a row for them, bringing their record for this year to 8-2.
Both teams are looking forward to the support of their home crowds in their upcoming games. Murphy will take on Blount at 7:00 p.m. on Friday. Blount is coming into the match on a six-game losing streak. Spanish Fort will have some time to savor their victory since their next game is a little ways off: they'll take on Bessemer City at 7:00 p.m. on November 10th. Bessemer City is also coming in off of a big victory, so somebody is in for a big reversal of fortune.
