Recap: Mercer Cardinals vs. Grundy County/Newtown-Harris Panthers
After a string of three wins, the Mercer Cardinals's good fortune finally ran out on Friday. They had to suffer through a rough 65-26 loss at the hands of Grundy County/Newtown-Harris. Mercer has not had much luck with Grundy County/Newtown-Harris recently, as the team's come up short the last four times they've met.
Grundy County/Newtown-Harris' success was the result of a balanced attack that saw several players step up, but Zack Cross led the charge by dropping a double-double on 18 points and 11 rebounds. Corbin Axtell was another key contributor, almost dropping a double-double on 13 points and nine rebounds.
Mercer's loss ended a six-game streak of away wins and brought them to 10-7. As for Grundy County/Newtown-Harris, their victory was their sixth straight at home, which pushed their record up to 19-3.
Mercer will take on Grundy County/Newtown-Harris at 6:30 p.m. on Monday. Hopefully Grundy County/Newtown-Harris is not getting complacent considering they own a much higher rank in Missouri (they are ranked 151st, while Mercer is ranked 373rd). As for Grundy County/Newtown-Harris, they will head out on the road to challenge Mercer at 6:30 p.m. Hopefully Grundy County/Newtown-Harris focused on turnovers this week since the team gave up seven on Friday.
