Winter Haven skates past Edgewater with ease

Recap: Winter Haven Blue Devils vs. Edgewater Eagles

The Winter Haven Blue Devils waltzed into their match on Wednesday with 16 straight wins but they left with 17. They breezed by Edgewater on the road to the tune of 79-42. Winter Haven has made a habit of sweeping their opponents off the court, having now won seven games by 24 points or more this season.

Leading Winter Haven to victory were Jamie Phillips jr and Isaac Celiscar. Phillips jr scored 13 points along with eight assists and eight rebounds, while Celiscar scored 15 points along with seven rebounds and three steals. Phillips jr hasn't dropped below eight rebounds for three straight games. Another player making a difference was Tyrese Mayo, who scored 11 points.

Several Eagles players turned in solid performances, despite ultimately coming up short. Perhaps the best among those players was Donovan Williams Jr., who scored 14 points. Fabian Taylor was another key contributor, scoring five points along with three steals.

Edgewater struggled to work together and finished the game with only three assists. That's the fewest assists they've managed all season.

Winter Haven pushed their record up to 17-1 with that victory, which was their eighth straight on the road. As for Edgewater, their defeat ended a 12-game streak of wins at home and dropped them to 15-4.

Winter Haven on the road again on Saturday and play against Riviera Prep at 6:40 p.m. on January 20th. The matchup should be an exciting one, as these teams are ranked near one another in the nation (Riviera Prep is ranked 61st, while Winter Haven is ranked 41st). As for Edgewater, they will head out on the road to take on Winter Park at 7:30 p.m. on Friday. Winter Park has been getting the ball to fall more lately as they've increased their point totals each of their last three games.
