Basketball Game Preview: Gilbert Christian Knights vs. Benjamin Franklin Chargers

Gilbert Christian is 8-2 against Benjamin Franklin since November of 2017 and they'll have a chance to extend that success on Monday. The Gilbert Christian Knights will venture away from home to square off against the Benjamin Franklin Chargers at 7:00 p.m. Both come into the contest bolstered by wins in their previous matches.

Gilbert Christian is headed into the match having just posted their closest win since November 24, 2023 on Saturday. They had just enough and edged Valley Christian out 44-42. The victory made it back-to-back wins for the Knights.

Gilbert Christian got their victory on the backs of several key players, but it was Addie Hansen out in front who went 7 of 15 on her way to 19 points and eight boards. Those 19 points gave Hansen a new career-high. Kaila Aston was another key player, dropping a double-double on 14 points and ten rebounds.

Gilbert Christian smashed the offensive glass and finished the game with 16 offensive boards. That strong performance was nothing new for the team: they've now pulled down at least nine offensive rebounds in ten consecutive games.

Meanwhile, Benjamin Franklin can bid farewell to their three-game losing streak thanks to their game on Thursday. They put the hurt on Bourgade Catholic with a sharp 52-27 win. The contest was pretty much decided by the half, when the score had already reached 35-9.

Gilbert Christian better keep an eye on Jacey Blair. She was instrumental in Benjamin Franklin's win, putting up 21 points. The team also got some help courtesy of Madelyn Falls, who posted 11 points.

Gilbert Christian has been performing incredibly well recently as they've won nine of their last ten matches, which provided a nice bump to their 15-6 record this season. Those victories came thanks to their defensive effort, having only surrendered 27.4 points per game. As for Benjamin Franklin, their victory ended a six-game drought on the road and puts them at 8-12.

Gilbert Christian was able to grind out a solid win over Benjamin Franklin in their previous meeting on January 7th, winning 46-36. The rematch might be a little tougher for Gilbert Christian since the squad won't have the home-court advantage this time around. We'll see if the change in venue makes a difference.
