Baseball Recap: Jay County Triumphs

It may have taken eight innings to finish the job, but Jay County ultimately got the result they hoped for on Thursday. They won by a run and slipped past the Woodlan Warriors 6-5. The victory continues a trend for the Patriots in their matchups with the Warriors: they've now won three in a row.

Kade Sommers made a big impact no matter where he played. On the mound, he tossed seven innings while giving up three earned (and one unearned) runs off six hits. He has been consistent recently: he hasn't tossed less than five strikeouts in four consecutive appearances. He was also big at the plate, going 2-for-4 with one run, one double, and one RBI.

In other batting news, the team relied heavily on Andrew Schemenaur, who went 2-for-3 with one home run, two runs, and one stolen base. He has become a key player for Jay County: the team is 4-1 when he posts at least two runs, but 1-3 otherwise. Leighton Brown was another key player, going 1-for-4 with one home run.

Jay County lost a few balls and finished the game with two home runs. They are a perfect 3-0 when they post two or more home runs.
