Baseball Recap: University Has No Trouble Against St. Vincent De Paul

University was handed a heart-breaking two-run defeat in their last match, but they sure didn't let that happen against St. Vincent de Paul on Tuesday. The University Red Devils put the hurt on the St. Vincent de Paul Mustangs with a sharp 19-1 win. The Red Devils might be getting used to big wins seeing as the team has won four contests by six runs or more this season.

University got a great performance from Sabin Verplaetse as he didn't allow a single earned run and allowed only one hit while striking out nine over five innings pitched. Those nine strikeouts gave Verplaetse a new career-high.

At the plate, University let Alexander Coleman and Jett Messenger run wild. Coleman went 4-for-5 with two stolen bases, three runs, and three RBI, while Messenger went 3-for-4 with one home run, four RBI, and two runs. Coleman also put up two doubles, which were his first of the season. Owen Chee was another key player, scoring two runs while going 2-for-4.

University hit smart and finished the game with only two strikeouts. They easily outclassed their opponents in that department as St. Vincent de Paul struck out ten times.

University's victory bumped their record up to 6-1. As for St. Vincent de Paul, this is the second loss in a row for them and nudges their season record down to 2-4.

Coming up, University will be playing at home against Saint Mary's at 4:00 p.m. on Thursday. University is facing Saint Mary's at the right time seeing as Saint Mary's is stuck on a three-game losing streak. As for St. Vincent de Paul, they will head out on the road to challenge St. Helena at 4:00 p.m. on Thursday. St. Helena will roll in looking for their sixth straight win, something St. Vincent de Paul surely won't give up without a fight.
