Volleyball Recap: New Hanover Takes a Loss

New Hanover lost against Coastal Christian back in October of 2024, and unfortunately they wound up with the same result on Monday. The Wildcats fell 3-1 to the Centurions. While the Wildcats didn't get the win, they did start the game off strong, beating the Centurions 25-21 in the first set.

New Hanover started the match hot and won the first set, but they struggled down the stretch and lost the last three. The match finished with set scores of 21-25, 25-16, 25-16, 25-19.

Maille Smith paced New Hanover's offense, picking up eight kills. Smith really made an impact as she also led the team in assists with 14. Rylee Wortman controlled things from the service line, finishing with four aces.

This is the second loss in a row for New Hanover and nudges their season record down to 1-2. As for Coastal Christian, their victory bumped their record up to 3-5.

Coming up, New Hanover is taking a road trip to face off against Whiteville at 6:00 p.m. on Tuesday. As for Coastal Christian, they will be playing at home against Harrells Christian Academy at 5:45 p.m. on Tuesday.
