Recap: Mountain Ridge Miners vs. Southern Rams

The Mountain Ridge Miners had already won two in a row (a stretch where they outscored their opponents by an average of 18 points), and they went ahead and made it three on Wednesday. They came out on top in a nail-biter against Southern and snuck past 50-47. That's another feather in the cap for Mountain Ridge, who also won these teams' last head-to-head.

Mountain Ridge's win was a true team effort, with many players turning in solid performances. Perhaps the best among them was Ian Duncan, who dropped a double-double on 13 points and 11 rebounds. That's the first time this season that Duncan pulled down eight or more rebounds. Another player making a difference was Owen McGeady, who scored 14 points along with two steals.

Southern's loss shouldn't obscure the performances of Isaiah Keller, who scored 18 points along with seven rebounds, and Jared Haskiell who scored 14 points along with two blocks.

The win got Mountain Ridge back to even at 4-4. As for Southern, their loss was their fourth straight on the road dating back to last season, which bumped their record down to 4-3.

Both teams are looking forward to the support of their home crowds in their upcoming games. Mountain Ridge's homestand continues as they prepare to take on Fort Hill at 7:00 p.m. on January 5th. Southern will take on Allegany at 7:30 p.m. on Friday. Allegany knows how to get points on the board -- the squad has finished with flashy point totals in its past eight matchups -- so hopefully Southern likes a good challenge.
