Basketball Recap: Hay Springs Takes a Loss

Hay Springs was not able to break out of their rough patch on Saturday as the team picked up their third straight defeat. They were outmatched by the Bennett County Warriors and fell 61-28. While losing is never fun, the Hawks can't take it too hard given the team's big disadvantage in MaxPreps' basketball rankings in their respective home states (they are ranked 200th in Nebraska, while the Warriors are ranked 30th in South Dakota).

Despite the loss, Hay Springs had strong showings from Devyn Young, who dropped a double-double on 11 points and ten rebounds, and Alaina Raymer, who posted five points. Young has been hot, having posted ten or more boards the last six times she's played.

Even though they lost, Hay Springs smashed the offensive glass and finished the game with 11 offensive boards. That strong performance was nothing new for the team: they've now pulled down at least nine offensive rebounds in four consecutive contests.

Hay Springs' defeat dropped their record down to 10-9. As for Bennett County, the win (which was their fifth in a row) raised their record to 14-2.

Both teams will have to hit the road in their upcoming games. Hay Springs will take on Crawford at 4:00 p.m. on Thursday. As for Bennett County, they will square off against Hot Springs at 7:00 p.m. on Monday.
