Basketball Recap: Gillespie Miners vs. Carlinville Cavaliers
Gillespie was not able to break out of their rough patch on Tuesday as the team picked up their third straight defeat. They were beaten by the Carlinville Cavaliers 64-33. Unfortunately, that's the second time they've come up short against the Cavaliers this season, as they also lost their prior matchup 74-55 back in January.
Carlinville's success was the result of a balanced attack that saw several players step up, but Triston Thompson led the charge by going 7-for-12 en route to 19 points. That's the most points Thompson has posted since back in February of 2024. Another player making a difference was Tate Duckels, who almost dropped a double-double with 13 points and nine boards.
Gillespie's loss dropped their record down to 5-19. As for Carlinville, their victory was their first in the conference, bumping their conference record up to 1-5 and their overall record up to 12-15.
Gillespie has already played their next match (against Calhoun), but no score has been uploaded at the time of writing. As for Carlinville, they will face off against Maryville Christian at 7:30 p.m. on Thursday. Considering Maryville Christian has lost six straight at home and Carlinville three straight on the road, this one might come down to who's more desperate to change their momentum.
