Basketball Recap: West Port Skates Past North Marion with Ease

West Port waltzed into their contest on Thursday with two straight wins... but they left with three. They breezed by the North Marion Colts to the tune of 53-23. Given the Wolf Pack's advantage in MaxPreps' Florida basketball rankings (they are ranked 68th, while the Colts are ranked 348th), the result wasn't entirely unexpected.

Leading West Port to victory were Aaliyah Grant and Caniyah Graham. Grant went 6 of 9 on her way to 15 points and eight boards, while Graham went 5 of 9 on her way to 11 points and five assists. The matchup was Grant's fourth in a row with at least ten points. The team also got some help courtesy of Kellie Grant, who posted eight boards and seven steals.

Despite the loss, North Marion saw an underclassman step up: freshman JAMEYA BROWN went 6 of 14 on her way to 15 points. JERMEA JACKSON was another key player, putting up six points along with six rebounds and three blocks.

West Port is on a roll lately: they've won four of their last five games, which provided a nice bump to their 6-3 record this season. Those victories came thanks to their offensive performance across that stretch, as they averaged 54.8 points per game. As for North Marion, their defeat dropped their record down to 3-7.

Both squads are looking forward to the support of their home crowds in their upcoming games. West Port won't have much time to rest: their next contest is against Master's Academy at 7:00 p.m. on Friday. West Port is strutting in with some offensive muscle as they've averaged 54 points per game this season. North Marion will take on Lake Weir in a holiday battle at 6:00 p.m. on Monday at. North Marion is facing Lake Weir at the right time seeing as Lake Weir is stuck on a five-game losing streak.
