Football Recap: Tristen Rutledge's Big Game Can't Quite Lead Pelham over Hueytown + How To Watch

It's hard to turn regular season success into postseason wins, a fact Pelham can now relate to. They fell 35-28 to the Hueytown Golden Gophers on Friday. If the Panthers were looking for revenge after losing 21-16 to the Golden Gophers when the teams met back in October of 2015, then they'll just have to keep looking.

Pelham's loss came despite a true team effort from the offense with many players turning in solid performances. Perhaps the best among them was Tristen Rutledge, who rushed for 172 yards and one touchdown. Marcus Arnold was in the mix too, providing the Panthers with two scores.

Pelham didn't go easy on the quarterback and picked off two passes before the game was over. The picks came courtesy of Chimenum Ajinwo and Michael Trey Hall. Pelham got some further help from Benji Augsburger: he made 20 total tackles.

Hueytown had a senior duo take command as Quentrell Jackson picked up 135 receiving yards and one TD and Jaedyn Powell threw for 126 yards and a pair of touchdowns while completing 75% of his passes. Those 135 receiving yards set a new season-high mark for Jackson.

This is the second loss in a row for Pelham and nudges their season record down to 4-7. As for Hueytown, they now have a winning record of 6-5.

Pelham does not have any more games scheduled as of now. As for Hueytown, they will take on Russell County at 7:00 p.m. on Friday. The Golden Gophers' defense better be ready for this one: the Warriors have averaged an impressive 36.5 points per game this season.
