League recap: Clearwater Central Catholic tops Calvary Christian to extend winning streak

3A District 5 recap October 22, 2013

Adding to the longest winning streak in 3A District 5 this week, Clearwater Central Catholic beat Calvary Christian 47-23. The victory was the fifth in a row for the Marauders.

St. Petersburg Catholic took down Shorecrest Prep 42-14 last week, the largest margin of any game. Tony Jones ran for 181 yards and caught 1 pass for 54 yards during the win.

Jeremy Wood provided a threat through the air and on the ground as the Warriors lost to Clearwater Central Catholic. He completed 15 passes for 156 yards and 1 touchdown and also ran for 55 yards. Wood's favorite target this week was Zack McGuire, who caught 3 passes for 62 yards.

Jack Sheehan and Jones gave the Barons a balanced attack in passing and rushing last week. Sheehan threw for 159 yards and 1 touchdown, while Jones ran for 181 yards. Teammate Jaquan Fuller added to the ground attack by rushing for 46 yards.

6-foot-1 quarterback Conor Regan of Calvary Christian is the league leader in passing yards this season with 678. He has also thrown 6 touchdowns. The leading receiver in the league this season is CJ Cotman. The Clearwater Central Catholic star has 16 catches for 253 yards.

The top two teams in the league will face off this week when first place Clearwater Central Catholic takes on second place Admiral Farragut.

Todd Yoder's team made the biggest leap in the national rankings this week, rising to 7,838 from 8,360. The improvement was largely due to a 47-23 victory over the Warriors last week.
