League recap: Hutto climbs in state rankings

Hutto moved up to 554 from 647 in the state rankings this week, the biggest jump in 4A Region III District 17. The Hippos climbed the ranks as a result of beating McCallum 14-7.

Pflugerville Connally and LBJ Austin played the closest game in the league this week, with Pflugerville Connally eventually emerging with a 36-35 victory.

Ben Bottlinger put up the best numbers through the air as Georgetown defeated San Marcos. He finished with 19 completions for 176 yards. Bottlinger's favorite target this week was Zach McCoig, who caught 5 passes for 59 yards.

Devin Tuggle was the best wideout in the league this week as Cedar Creek lost to Lockhart. Tuggle racked up 4 receptions for 94 yards. Trevor Roberts helped Cedar Creek's passing attack out by catching 2 balls for 17 yards.

Da'Trean Simmons was the best running back in 4A Region III District 17 this week. In 26 carries, he ran for 192 yards as Elgin fell to the Lions. Te'Rel Simmons also contributed to the rushing game with 83 yards on the ground.

The Eagles' Bottlinger and Camden Lepley have formed a dynamic duo this season, leading the league in both passing and receiving yards. 6-1 quarterback Bottlinger has thrown for 450 yards this season, while Lepley has 23 catches for 236 yards. Simmons from the Wildcats leads the league in rushing with 413 yards.

An important game coming up in the league this week will be when Georgetown takes on Elgin. Jason Dean's team is in second place, while Wade Griffin's team is in third place.

The league will see a high scoring game when the Eagles and the Wildcats face off this week. The top two offenses in the league, Georgetown comes in having scored 105 this season, while Elgin has scored 129. The Eagles scored 34 points last week as they defeated the Rattlers.

Cedar Creek lost to Lockhart 64-13 last week, the largest margin of any game. Jose Vasquez threw for 111 yards and ran for 48 yards in the loss.
