Softball Game Preview: Laker Lakers vs. Valley Lutheran Chargers

The Laker Lakers will square off against the Valley Lutheran Chargers at 4:00 p.m. on Monday. Valley Lutheran took a loss in their last contest and will be looking to turn the tables on Laker, who comes in off a win.

Laker took a loss when they played away from home last Thursday, but their home fans gave them all the motivation they needed on Monday. They walked away with an 11-6 win over Deckerville. The game marked the Lakers' most dominant victory of the season.

Madelyn Warneck was a major factor while hitting and pitching. She struck out 11 batters over six innings while giving up six earned runs off ten hits (and not a single walk). She has been consistent recently: she hasn't given up more than two walks in three consecutive appearances. She was also solid in the batter's box, going 2-for-4 with three RBI, one run, and one double.

In other batting news, Ellee Armbruster and Kaylee Shaw did most of the damage at the plate: Armbruster went 2-for-3 with two runs and one stolen base, while Shaw went 2-for-4 with one triple, one run, and one RBI. Ellie Farnum was another key player, going 2-for-4 with two runs and one stolen base.

Laker was getting hits left and right and finished the game having posted a batting average of .414. That's the best batting average they've posted all season.

Meanwhile, Valley Lutheran fell victim to Ithaca and their airtight pitching crew on Friday. They lost 11-0 to the Yellowjackets. The defeat continues a trend for the Chargers in their meetings with the Yellowjackets: they've now lost eight in a row.

Valley Lutheran's loss dropped their record down to 4-10. As for Laker, their win bumped their record up to 3-6.
