Cape Hatteras is 1-9 against Manteo since March of 2020 but they'll have a chance to close the gap a little bit on Thursday. Olivia Napier and Gracie Wyatt stepped up to the plate in a big way. Napier went 3-for-5 with four RBI, one run, and one double, while Wyatt scored two runs and stole a base while going 2-for-5. That double was Napier's first of the season. The team also got some help courtesy of Taylor Hickman, who scored two runs while going 2-for-5.
Manteo not only won on Tuesday, but they posted their biggest win since March 12th. They were the clear victors by a 16-5 margin over Pasquotank County. The result was nothing new for the Redskins, who have now won four contests by 11 runs or more so far this season.
Makenna Gray was a major factor no matter where she played. She struck out nine batters over five innings while giving up just one earned (and one unearned) run off one hit. She has been consistent recently: she hasn't tossed less than seven strikeouts in three consecutive appearances. She was also big at the plate, scoring two runs and stealing a base while going 3-for-4. What's more, she posted two RBI, the most she's had since back in March.
In other batting news, Bella Huntingford was incredible, scoring two runs and stealing a base while going 2-for-3. Another player making a difference was Haleigh Stokes, who went 1-for-2 with one triple, two RBI, and one run.
Manteo kept the outfield on their toes and finished the game with 20 hits. That's the most hits they've managed all season.
Manteo has been performing well recently as they've won four of their last five matches. That's provided a nice bump to their 9-4 record this season. Those victories came thanks in part to their hitting performance across that stretch, as they averaged 10.2 runs over those games. As for Cape Hatteras, their defeat dropped their record down to 2-5.
Cape Hatteras suffered a grim 14-2 defeat to Manteo in their previous meeting back in March. Can the Hurricanes avenge their loss or is history doomed to repeat itself? We'll find out soon enough.
