Basketball Recap: Mallard Creek Takes a Loss

If Mallard Creek was feeling good fresh off their 74-28 takedown of West Mecklenburg last Tuesday, their most recent game may have dampened their spirits a bit. The Mallard Creek Mavericks were outmatched by the Chambers Cougars and fell 89-61. The Mavericks were not able to make up for their defeat to the Cougars from their previous meeting back in February of 2024.

Several Mavericks players turned in solid performances despite ultimately coming up short. Perhaps the best among those players was Kash Hayes, who posted 14 points. The dominant performance gave Hayes a new career-high in points. Ahmad Savage was another key player, putting up nine points and five assists.

Even though they lost, Mallard Creek smashed the offensive glass and finished the game with 11 offensive rebounds. That strong performance was nothing new for the team: they've now pulled down at least nine offensive boards in four consecutive games.

Tarris Bouie III was his usual excellent self, dropping a double-double on 37 points and ten rebounds for Chambers. Bouie III is trending in the right direction considering he's improved his point production for three straight games. Another player making a difference was Markus Kerr, who went 9 for 14 en route to 24 points.

The loss snapped Mallard Creek's winning streak at three games and leaves them with a 9-8 record. As for Chambers, the victory made it two in a row for them and bumps their season record up to 10-6.

Mallard Creek will square off against West Charlotte at 7:30 p.m. on January 24th. Mallard Creek is strutting in with some offensive muscle as they've averaged 54.6 points per game this season. Chambers has already played their next contest, a 73-66 win against Christ School on the 18th.
