Basketball Recap: Northwestern Comes Up Short

On Friday, the Northwestern Tigers had to suffer through a 72-33 loss at the hands of the Manchester Squires. While losing is never fun, the Tigers can't take it too hard given the team's big disadvantage in MaxPreps' Indiana basketball rankings (they are ranked 165th, while the Squires are ranked 43rd).

Despite the loss, Northwestern still got an impressive performance from Hayden Cook, who posted six points and seven rebounds.

Manchester had a senior duo take command as Ethan Hendrix went 9 of 15 on his way to 21 points in addition to seven assists and six steals and Gavin Betten dropped a double-double on 23 points and ten boards. Betten's evening made it six games in a row in which he has scored at least ten points. The team also got some help courtesy of Tallon Torpy, who went 5 of 8 on his way to 11 points.

Northwestern's loss was their first in the conference, dropping their conference record down to 2-1 and their overall record down to 4-3. As for Manchester, the victory was the eighth in a row for them, bringing their record for this year to 9-1.

Northwestern wasted no time getting back out on the court and has already played their next matchup, a 44-41 win against Eastern on the 4th. As for Manchester, they also didn't take long to hit the court again: they've already played their next contest, a 68-55 victory against Fort Wayne Canterbury on the 4th.
