Granada and Foothill are an even 5-5 against one another since April of 2021, but likely not for long. The Matadors will look to defend their home field on Thursday against the Falcons at 4:00 p.m. Expect the scorekeeper to be kept busy: if their previous games are any indication, these teams will really light up the scoreboard.
While Granada's win against Dublin wasn't quite the blowout it was the last time the pair played, they still came out on top. The Matadors skirted past the Gaels 10-8. For those keeping track at home, that's the closest victory the Matadors have posted against the Gaels since May 6, 2021.
The team relied heavily on Delaney Aumua, who fired off two home runs and three RBI while going 2-for-4. Another player making a difference was Alicia Mitre, who went 1-for-2 with three RBI, one triple, and one run.
Granada hit smart and finished the game with only two strikeouts. They easily outclassed their opponents in that department as Dublin struck out eight times.
Meanwhile, there's no place like home for Foothill, who bounced back after a loss on the road on Thursday. They put the hurt on Livermore with a sharp 16-6 win on Tuesday. The result was nothing new for the Falcons, who have now won six contests by eight runs or more so far this season.
Foothill let Sophia Burdick and Ellie Novitske run wild. Burdick went a perfect 5-for-5 with three runs, three doubles, and one stolen base, while Novitske got on base in all four of her plate appearances with one home run, four RBI, and two runs. That's the most RBI Novitske has posted since back in March. Kaycie Burdick was another key player, going 3-for-4 with three runs and two RBI.
Foothill pushed their record up to 12-5-1 with the victory, which was their sixth straight at home. Those home wins came thanks in part to their hitting performance across that stretch, as they averaged 10.2 runs over those games. As for Granada, they are on a roll lately: they've won three of their last four matches. That's provided a nice bump to their 12-8 record this season.
Fans could be in store for some top-tier slugging on Thursday. Granada hasn't had any problems when it comes to power this season, having averaged 1.2 home runs per game. However, it's not like Foothill struggles in that department as they've been averaging 0.6 home runs. With so much power on both teams, it'll be down to the pitchers to keep the mound locked down.
