Baseball Game Preview: Nordonia Knights vs. Mayfield Wildcats

Nordonia is on an eight-game streak of home losses dating back to last season, and Mayfield a three-game streak of away losses. However, someone's due for a change in luck on Saturday. The Nordonia Knights will look to defend their home field against the Mayfield Wildcats at 11:00 a.m.

Lake Catholic hit Nordonia with a four-run fifth inning on Friday, which goes a long way in explaining the final result. The Knights lost 11-2 to the Cougars. For those keeping track at home, that's the biggest loss the Knights have suffered since March 29th.

Meanwhile, winning is always nice, but doing so behind a season-high score is even better (just ask Mayfield). Everything went their way against Aurora on Friday as they made off with a 10-1 victory. The win was some much needed relief for the Wildcats as it spelled an end to their eight-game losing streak.

Dom Prince tossed a big game, striking out seven batters over five innings while giving up just one earned run off four hits. That's the most strikeouts he has posted since back in April.

At the plate, Mayfield got a big performance out of JD Dinnen, who went 2-for-3 with one triple, two RBI, and one run. The team also got some help courtesy of Carmen DiPietro, who went 3-for-4 with three RBI and one run.

Mayfield's victory bumped their record up to 5-14. As for Nordonia, their defeat dropped their record down to 3-12.
