Basketball Game Preview: Morgan County Cougars vs. Powell County Pirates

The Morgan County Cougars will head out on the road to square off against the Powell County Pirates at 7:30 p.m. on Thursday. Given that the two teams suffered a loss in their last games, they both have a little extra motivation heading into this matchup.

It was a proper cat-fight when Morgan County challenged Menifee County on Monday. Morgan County took a hard 65-50 fall against Menifee County. The loss continues a trend for the Cougars in their matchups with the Wildcats: they've now lost three in a row.

Meanwhile, Powell County was not able to break out of their rough patch on Saturday as the team picked up their fifth straight defeat. They were three points away from ending the streak, but they lost a 55-52 heartbreaker at the hands of Prestonsburg.

Powell County's loss dropped their record down to 3-22. As for Morgan County, their defeat dropped their record down to 9-16.

Morgan County beat Powell County 53-42 when the teams last played back in December of 2023. The rematch might be a little tougher for Morgan County since the squad won't have the home-court advantage this time around. We'll see if the change in venue makes a difference.
