Baseball Recap: Inter-Lakes Comes Up Short

Inter-Lakes had lost ten straight on the road dating back to last season, but on Wednesday they dropped their record down to 0-10 to make it 11. They came up short against the Gilford Golden Eagles, falling 17-7. The result was an unpleasant reminder to the Lakers of the 13-1 defeat they experienced in the pair's previous head-to-head fixture back in May of 2024.

Danny Bean made the most of his time at bat despite the final result and went a perfect 2-for-2 with two stolen bases, three RBI, and two runs. He is on a roll when it comes to stolen bases, as he's now snagged at least one in each of the last three games he's played. The team also got some help courtesy of Ryder Palsgrove, who went 1-for-3 with one run, one double, and one RBI.

As for Gilford, the win got them back to even at 3-3. That looming 17-7 mark stands out as the most commanding margin for them yet this season.

On Gilford's side, Ryan Folan made a big impact no matter where he played. On the mound, he struck out nine batters over four innings while giving up three earned (and two unearned) runs off only one hit. Folan has become a key player for Gilford: the team is 2-1 when he allows at most three hits, but 1-2 otherwise. Folan was also solid in the batter's box, getting on base in three of his four plate appearances with three runs, one stolen base, and one RBI. That stolen base was his first of the season.

In other batting news, the team relied heavily on Drew Smith, who went 2-for-3 with three stolen bases, three runs, and one RBI. Another player making a difference was Sean Ellis, who went 1-for-2 with three RBI and two runs.

Both squads will have to hit the road in their upcoming games. Inter-Lakes will challenge Hillsboro-Deering at 4:00 p.m. on Friday. As for Gilford, they will take on Somersworth at 4:00 p.m. on Thursday.
