Recap: Gainesville Hurricanes vs. Hawthorne Hornets
The Gainesville Hurricanes's recent rough patch got a bit rougher on Friday after their fourth straight loss. They were just a bucket shy of victory and fell 33-32 to Hawthorne. The contest was a 12-12 toss-up at halftime, but Gainesville was outscored by Hawthorne in the second.
Several Hurricanes players turned in solid performances, despite ultimately coming up short. Perhaps the best among those players was Jocelyn Wallace, who scored nine points along with nine rebounds and two steals. Another player making a difference was Jayden Terry, who scored 13 points along with six rebounds.
Gainesville's defeat dropped their record down to 7-10. As for Hawthorne, the win (which was their seventh in a row) raised their record to 10-3.
Both squads will have to hit the road in their upcoming games. Gainesville will challenge Trinity Catholic at 7:00 p.m. on Wednesday. As for Hawthorne, they will head out on the road to face off against Orange Park at 7:30 p.m. on Monday. Hopefully Orange Park focused on turnovers this week since the team gave up 21 on Thursday.
