Softball Recap: Hillcrest Takes a Loss

Hillcrest fought the good fight in their extra-innings matchup against Greenville on Wednesday but wound up with a less-than-desirable result. They fell just short of the Red Raiders by a score of 5-4. The Rams just can't catch a break and have now endured three losses in a row.

Olivia Baker spent all eight innings on the mound, and it's clear why: she surrendered five runs (all of which were unearned) on seven hits. She has been nothing but reliable: she hasn't given up more than one earned run in five consecutive appearances.

At the plate, Taylor Abercrombie and Lillian Lane did some serious damage despite the final result: Abercrombie went 2-for-4 with one stolen base, one run, and one RBI, while Lane went 2-for-4 with two stolen bases and one run. Those stolen bases were Lane's first of the season. Another player making a difference was Skyla Benton, who went 1-for-3 with two stolen bases.

Hillcrest's defeat dropped their record down to 13-13. As for Greenville, the win got them back to even at 12-12-1.

As of now, neither Hillcrest nor the Red Raiders have any future games scheduled.
