The Morrison Mustangs will challenge the East Dubuque Warriors at 11:00 a.m. on Saturday. Both squads will be entering this one on the heels of a big victory.
East Dubuque will be up against a hot Morrison team: the squad just extended their winning streak to five. The Mustangs' pitcher stepped up to hand Milledgeville a 6-0 shutout on Tuesday.
Morrison's victory was truly a team effort as four different players contributed at least one hit. One of them was Bella Duncan, who went 2-for-3 with one home run and two runs.
Meanwhile, East Dubuque waltzed into their contest on Thursday with six straight wins... but they left with seven. Everything went their way against the Thunder as they made off with a 12-2 win.
Curin Oberman was a major factor while hitting and pitching. On the mound, she struck out 15 batters over seven innings while giving up just one earned (and one unearned) run off three hits (and not a single walk). She has been consistent for a while: she hasn't given up more than two walks in 14 consecutive appearances. She was also stellar in the batter's box, going 3-for-4 with two doubles, one stolen base, and two RBI. That's the most doubles she has posted since back in April of 2024.
In other batting news, Katie Welp was a standout: she got on base in all five of her plate appearances with four runs, two stolen bases, and two RBI. That's the most runs she has posted since back in March. The team also got some help courtesy of Tierney Miller, who got on base in four of her five plate appearances with four runs, two stolen bases, and one double.
Morrison's victory was their fourth straight on the road, which pushed their record up to 10-4. Those road wins came thanks in part to their pitching effort, having only surrendered 0.3 runs on average over those games. As for East Dubuque, their victory bumped their record up to 11-7.
The batters for both teams will have to hit smart on Saturday as both have some strikeout artists on the roster. Morrison has been retiring batters left and right this season, having averaged 15.1 strikeouts per game. However, it's not like East Dubuque struggles in that department as they've been averaging 11.4 strikeouts. Considering how easily both teams rack up Ks, the hitters on both teams better bring their A-game into this one.
