Football Recap: Southern School of Energy and Sustainability Takes a Tough Playoff Loss

Southern School of Energy and Sustainability and D.H. Conley squared off in some playoff action on Friday, but Southern School of Energy and Sustainability had to settle for second. They took a 44-32 hit to the loss column at the hands of the Vikings. Despite 354 more yards than the Vikings, the Spartans couldn't convert that extra yardage to scores.

Southern School of Energy and Sustainability's defeat came despite a true team effort from the offense with many players turning in solid performances. Perhaps the best among them was Jonathan Dillon, who threw for 393 yards and a pair of TDs while picking up 17.9 yards per attempt, and also rushed for 144 yards on only six carries. Dillon's passing game has become a key predictor of the Spartans' success: the team is 6-1 when his passer rating is 100 or higher, but only 1-4 otherwise. Kamari Holloway was another key rusher, rushing for 216 yards on only ten carries.

D.H. Conley's success was the result of a balanced attack that saw several players step up, but Samari Cabell led the charge by rushing for 84 yards and two scores, while also throwing for 202 yards and one touchdown. That's the most passing yards Cabell has posted since back in September. Another player making a difference was Elijah Taft, who rushed for 155 yards and one TD.

The loss snapped Southern School of Energy and Sustainability's winning streak at six games and leaves them with a 7-5 record. As for D.H.
