Basketball Recap: Hanover Has No Trouble Against Matoaca

Hanover won the last time they faced Matoaca and things went their way on Monday too. The Hanover Hawks were the clear victor by a 69-45 margin over the Matoaca Warriors. The Hawks have made a habit of sweeping their opponents off the court, having now won six matches by 20 points or more this season.

Despite the loss, Matoaca saw an underclassman step up: freshman Kailah Carter went 10 for 12 on her way to 22 points and three steals. The game was Carter's sixth in a row with at least ten points. The team also got some help courtesy of Sydney Richardson, who went 6 of 14 en route to 15 points.

Hanover pushed their record up to 9-4 with the victory, which was their third straight on the road. Those victories came thanks to their offensive performance across that stretch, as they averaged 59.0 points per game. As for Matoaca, they have been struggling recently as they've lost six of their last eight contests, which put a noticeable dent in their 6-6 record this season.

Both teams are looking forward to the support of their home crowds in their upcoming games. Hanover and Henrico will face off at 7:30 p.m. on Tuesday without much rest having both just played. As for Matoaca, they won't have much time to rest: their next match is against Colonial Heights at 7:15 p.m. on Tuesday. Matoaca is strutting in with some offensive muscle as they've averaged 53.1 points per game this season.
