Soccer Game Preview: Winn vs. Southwest

Winn hasn't had much luck against Southwest recently, but that could start to change on Friday. The Mavericks will venture away from home to take on the Dragons at 6:30 p.m. The two teams are sauntering into the matchup backed by comfortable wins in their prior games.

Having struggled with five defeats in a row, Winn turned things around against McCollum on Tuesday. Their defense stepped up to hand the Cowboys a 3-0 shutout. The score was close at halftime, but Winn pulled away in the second half with two goals.

Meanwhile, Southwest got the win against Harlandale on Tuesday by a conclusive 3-0. Southwest might be getting used to big wins seeing as the team has won five matchups by three goals or more this season.

They hit Harlandale with a three-pronged attack, as the team got scores from Guillermo Lazcano, Luis Perez, and Caleb Barajas.

Southwest's win bumped their record up to 9-1-1. As for Winn, their victory bumped their record up to 5-6-1.

Winn suffered a grim 9-0 defeat to Southwest in their previous matchup back in March of 2025. Can the Mavericks avenge their loss or is history doomed to repeat itself? We'll find out soon enough.
