Basketball Recap: Marion Takes a Loss

Marion was not able to break out of their rough patch on Monday as the team picked up their fourth straight loss. They were five points away from ending the streak, but they lost a 28-23 heartbreaker at the hands of the Mesick Bulldogs. The Eagles were given a dose of their own medicine in this game as the Bulldogs apparently hadn't forgotten their defeat the last time these teams played back in February of 2024.

Mesick was led to victory by Avary Monroe and Cassie Sexton. Monroe posted four points and 18 rebounds, while Sexton put up 16 points along with seven boards and three steals. That makes it four consecutive games in which Sexton has scored at least a third of Mesick's points.

Marion's loss dropped their record down to 2-13. As for Mesick, their victory ended an eight-game drought on the road dating back to last season and puts them at 2-12.

Looking ahead, Marion will be playing in front of their home fans against Northern Michigan Christian at 5:00 p.m. on Monday. As for Mesick, they wasted no time getting back out on the court and have already played their next contest, a 43-20 defeat against Mason County Eastern on the 12th.
