Basketball Recap: Nick Runte's Big Game Can't Quite Lead Athens Christian Preparatory Academy over Regents Academy

Athens Christian Preparatory Academy was not able to break out of their rough patch on Tuesday as the team picked up their 26th straight loss dating back to last season. They took a hard 55-36 fall against the Regents Academy Eagles. Unfortunately, that's the second time they've come up short against the Eagles this season, as they also lost their prior matchup 65-17 last Friday.

Athens Christian Preparatory Academy's defeat came despite a true team effort with many players turning in solid performances. Perhaps the best among them was Nick Runte, who posted 14 points and four steals. Runte is crushing it when it comes to steals: he's grabbed at least three every time he's taken the court this season. Lance Compton was another key player, putting up 14 points and five rebounds.

Even though they lost, Athens Christian Preparatory Academy smashed the offensive glass and finished the game with 12 offensive boards. That strong performance was nothing new for the team: they've now pulled down at least eight offensive rebounds in six consecutive games.

Regents Academy got their victory on the backs of several key players, but it was Jonah Shipp out in front who dropped a double-double with 12 points and ten boards. Regents Academy is 2-1 when Shipp posts eight or more rebounds, but 5-6 otherwise. Another player making a difference was Stephen Crescenzo, who earned four points in addition to 12 boards and four steals.

Athens Christian Preparatory Academy's loss dropped their record down to 0-22. As for Regents Academy, the win was the fifth in a row for them, bringing their record for this year to 7-7.
