Softball Recap: Corinth Holders Pirates vs. Southeast Raleigh Bulldogs
Corinth Holders had already won four in a row (a stretch where they outscored their opponents by an average of 11.3 runs) and they went ahead and made it five on Tuesday. They blew past the Southeast Raleigh Bulldogs 15-0. The result was nothing new for the Pirates, who have now won seven contests by six runs or more so far this season.
Elizabeth McKenzie made a splash no matter where she played. She struck out seven batters over three innings while giving up no earned runs or hits (and not a single walk). She has been nothing but reliable on the mound: she hasn't given up more than two walks in five consecutive appearances. She was also solid in the batter's box, scoring two runs and stealing a base while getting on base in both of her plate appearances. That stolen base was her first of the season.
In other batting news, Corinth Holders let Alyssa Tanner and Mia Gwynn run wild. Tanner went a perfect 1-for-1 with two runs, one triple, and one RBI, while Gwynn went a perfect 1-for-1 with two runs, one triple, and one RBI. That triple marked the first that Tanner hit this season. The team also got some help courtesy of Ava Marks, who scored two runs and stole a base while getting on base in all three of her plate appearances.
